Fashioned by the hand of heaven

Fashioned by the hand of heaven

Shooting as if you working editorial fashion is 'absolutely fabulous' practice. It is without a doubt one of the most demanding forms of photography and modelling. In its most elevated form, haute couture – such as in Vogue - is characterised by fantastical, highly stylised images of unusual but beautiful tall, stick-thin models with stylised expressions, outfitted in bang-on-trend haute couture. Shoots for a magazine editorial demand eight or so outstanding images (and a cover!) shot in tight timeframes – a day or so is typical. Shoots usually involve large creative teams, careful planning, big budgets and fashion designer-sized egos. Highly selective, it is a fiercely competitive and unforgiving industry for everyone involved. An editorial shoot does not pay well but it is an essential showcase for a commercial fashion photographer. In general, it requires technical mastery and outstanding creativity on the part of the photographer.
